Our summer season runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Please join us when you're in town! Our Church: History: In April 1976, a handful of people banded together for Bible study and prayer, calling themselves the West Glenwood Bible Fellowship. God answered their prayers and the fellowship grew, holding its first worship service November 7, 1976. On March 5, 1977, this fellowship of believers, choosing to affiliate with the Baptist General Conference, was formally recognized as Mountain View Baptist Church with 34 charter members. Bolitho Elementary School and later the Seventh-Day Adventist Church buildings were secured on a rental basis. Pastor Dave and Kathy Pearson began full-time ministry on August 15, 1977, and a parcel of land was purchased south of town off Highway 82. Groundbreaking was held in the fall of 1979 and a multipurpose facility seating approximately 275 people was erected and completed to God’s glory in January 1981. In the fall of 1984, a 6,000-square-foot educational wing was completed. June 1991 marked the completion of a modular classroom building, which initially housed the Middle School and High School Ministry. In the fall of 1993, the Jr. and Sr. High moved to the Youth Center, in the downstairs of the main church building. On June 6, 1999, we officially broke ground. “Together We Build” has brought our church family together to complete the first 3 of 5 building expansion phases. We have completely remodeled the churches exterior, added an additional 10,000 square feet in the worship center and educational wings, and most recently paved the parking lot. Community: Mountain View is nestled between Vail and Aspen in a resort community of approximately 11,000 in population. It is largely a tourist-oriented community in the Roaring Fork Valley which is experiencing tremendous population growth. Personality: In the world of evangelicals, Mountain View maintains a moderate position of balance. We emphasize strong biblical preaching and teaching, yet we intend to balance correct doctrine with practical application. We believe that all who are born again by God’s Spirit are commanded to love each other. We are convinced that division and conflict among believers is Satan's favorite strategy. We work toward conformity to the righteousness of Christ in our behavior and conduct. We do not intend to be a “worldly church” nor do we intend to major on the “do’s and don’ts.” We are finding the Holy Spirit able to be trusted to produce a holiness of life. The spirit of the fellowship is warm and loving. We work hard at keeping a small group feeling even though we have been experiencing great growth.
